Thank you for participating in this study on the sustainability of opera careers in the UK.

Your responses will help us understand the challenges faced by singers at different stages of training and professional life. We're looking to understand how these challenges impact practitioners as they prepare to become professional singers, as those who have started out on a professional career.

By gathering input from both early-career and experienced singers, we aim to:

  • Map out the current career landscape for UK opera singers

  • Identify the biggest barriers to long-term success

  • Assess the appeal of UK training as opposed to international models

  • Explore how technology is changing the profession

  • Develop practical recommendations to improve support, funding, training, and job opportunities

Your insights will directly shape a final report and an advocacy manifesto that will be shared with arts organisations, policymakers, funders, and training institutions to push for real change in the opera world.

This survey will take approximately 15–20 minutes. Your responses are anonymous and confidential.

Deadline 31 December

This research is led by soprano Anush Hovhannisyan, supported by The Hamilton-Duval Charitable Trust.
